Good afternoon Roverians,

This forum has helped me recently, so I reach out again for knowledge:

My 2016 LR4 (purchased used 1 month ago) came with the cold weather package, according to the VIN. I have the correct cord (TMR 3600003) to attach to the block heater. Now I just need to find the damn thing.

Today I had my driver's side (NA, so left side) front tire off. I removed all of the fender splash guard screws and retainers. I learned that I have to remove the fender flare and the mud flap to remove the splash guard, so I'm going to finish this job tomorrow.

That said, once I get to the point that I can see the back of the engine, where is frost plug/block heater, say, in relation to the oil pan, or the left bank downpipe?

I have the service manuals and procedures for this vehicle (thanks to a user on this forum), so please be as technical as you can. Incidentally, the only procedure apparently missing from the service documents I have is the installation of a block heater.

I'd **** for a picture of the location, but beggars can't be choosers. Any help is appreciated.

Did you buy the cord or did it come with the vehicle uninstalled? I fear cold weather package did not include block heater. Typically this is a dealer installed option. Hopefully I am wrong and you don't find the hex plug.

This is something else I'll have to figure out. I've read so many conflicting reports of which vehicles came with heaters, which came with cords pre-installed, what the cold weather pack came with....

This may be a mystery I have to solve on my own.

I hope these help:

https://landroverforums.com/forum/lr3-28/lr3-lr4-engine-block-heater-92496/

https://landroverforums.com/forum/lr3-28/cold-climate-pkg-lr3-block-heaters-factory-77805/

https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/2010-lr4-5-0l-block-heater-location-105366.html

At first glance it looks like it would be behind the front diff, on the firewall side of the block. If you see only a large hex plug, then your vehicle did not have that option installed.

I had read through these posts, but thank you for confirming that these are just about it when I comes to block heater info.

Once I figure out my block heater situation, I'm going to make a proper post about the procedure.

The story with my LR3 was that vehicles destined for Canada came with block heaters (2005&2006) however the cords were not CSA approved so they were not installed. My 2010 LR4 with everything did not have a block heater installed. Hopefully LR smartened up in the later model years.

So I finished my block heater cord installation today. Sounds odd, since really all I did was plug in an electric cable, but it was a pain. I'm including a link to a Youtube video of the block heater location, and the mistakes I made finding it.

Hope this helps others in the future, and thanks to the commenters!

Awesome news that it was installed. Same as with the older LR4s. The cable was not CSA approved so they did not install them. Did you get it installed and did it work? It looks like it was a little corroded so some dielectric grease would have been useful. Where did you source your cord?

Second. Please don't crawl under the LR4 anymore with those 2 ton jack stands. You are playing Russian roulette. Get some proper 5 or 6 ton units. Plus that LR jack is another disaster waiting to happen.

Thanks for the vid!

Yes, all of my tools are Volkswagen related, even the jack and stands. Still building out my Rover kit.

Looks like it's directly above the engine mount, as viewed from below. Gotta check this on my 2010 LR4!
