Alarm Going Off Randomly

Yesterday my LR4 decided to start sounding the alarm, once earlier in the night and then again at 2:30am. I had to jump out of bed and run downstairs to get the key. I went outside to check, and everything was ok. I decided to park it in the garage so I could leave it unlocked, and when I got in it I noticed the message Low Batt Please Star / Drive Vehicle or something to that effect. I pulled it into the garage, and put the charger on it. This morning the charger was still running and the message was still there. After some searching I see a lot of people say the hood switch goes bad often on these LR4's, but I am also wondering if the alarm would sound for the low battery? Maybe alerting you so it doesn't go completely dead? As for starting it did not start hard, seemed like there was a lot of cranking power.

Figure I would get this thread going before the neighbors get annoyed.

Try replacing the hood switch first:

My bet would be the hood latch as well. Had the same thing happen to me.

I will get one and start there. In the meantime have you guys tried the jumper wire in the connector to keep the closed circuit? Thought I would give that a try today to see if the alarm doesn’t go off.

Yup disconnect plug. Jump the connections with a paperclip and wrap in electrical tape. Never look back. At $.05 possibly the cheapest fix you will ever do on the LR4.

If I knew what kind of plug it was I could make a pretty sweet jumper for a permanent solution.... We have had a lot of car break ins in my area, people going around checking handles looking for easy money. I know leaving my car unlocked is not an option.

Have a look, it is the wires leading up to the hood latch. My paperclip has been holding for 7 years. Maybe I will give it a few wraps of tape when it reaches 10.

5 cent paperclip-- must not be Land Rover OEM issue. Good thing you're outside of warranty period, mister.

I was reading the manual and there is a way to bypass some alarm features, but I don't think it includes the hood pin, maybe just the proximity and tilt sensors?

I was under the assumption that one press on the lock button would not arm the alarm and two presses of the lock button within a certain amount of time of each other would arm the alarm. Anyone know if this is true for the LR4?

News to me. I thought it armed every time I locked it with a single press. That would be the expected behavior from a UI standpoint IMO.
