This is the exact reason that there have been so few attempts to change/upgrade the LR3/LR4 stereo systems over the last 16 years.

Ain't this the truth! Glad OP got his issue solved but I find myself, again, trying to find a decent solution to getting a new head unit in the LR4. It's been years. It shouldn't be this hard!

I’m like a dog with a bone when I decide to pursue something, so I get your years-long quest for a better head unit.

But in the meantime, have you considered an inexpensive band-aid for your failing BT issue? I have hyped this product many times here on the forum, but I got a $30 BTC450 device from Kinivo (AMZ) that worked perfectly in my 2011 LR4. Jacks into the AUX port on the back of the center console. I later donated it to a friend with a D2 who wanted to stream music. It worked so well that I just bought another one to bring BT to the head unit on my boat. I treated the rest of the marina to my “yacht rock” playlist that they may or may not have appreciated.

Might be worth a shot as a stop-gap solution.

My personal wish is for a wireless CarPlay unit for my 2013 LR4 that will preserve all camera and 4x4 info functions of my factory display. I’ve seen a few but they all seem to have deficiencies that I’m not crazy about.

I am a bit slow it seems. From the first jpg, I see a wire that is not connected to anything.

I assume that was not a factory Land Rover wire but am I to assume that wire related to something other than the sub woofer install?
In other words, whatever the wire does, it presumably got accidentally separated when the sub woofer was being installed?

Thanks for this. It looks eminently functional. I, like you, have been just set on a new head unit though and even after countless of experts in the car audio business have advised selling 'that horrible Land Rover' in order to get a better stereo!

i just tapped into the wiring for the factory sub in the rear hatch and ran that to a custom made boxed subwoofer for the back of my trunk. It's a single 15inch ported box. The amp for that sub is 2k watts. Then I spliced into wiring from the factory amp underneath the passenger front seat to an aftermarket amp. I then opened the 4 doors and swapped the speakers and tweeters. Then i also added another amp and wired in a chuchero box for vocals and highs. My rig is so freaking loud and the bass hits like crazy. I did all of this for about a grand. It's the same as any other vehicle honestly. I didn't even touch the dash or factory radio. It's just like upgrading audio in a civic or maxima.

That's amazing and I bet it sounds fantastic. I, on the other hand, am fine with the HK7 sound (not a great ear) but need a more modern control system. It's just so sloooow and now the display hangs when coming out of reverse... And Bluetooth failing and...

hmm well you would need the metra aftermarket headunit kit which is this: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/metra-...er-lr4-vehicles-black/6350025.p?skuId=6350025

it's like $400 give or take. Once you have that you would be able to install any single or double din radio on the market. You will however lose your special land rover screens like 4x4 info and so fourth.

your fourth option would be to just purchase a factory headunit off of ebay, one with lower mileage of course. They sell for like $200-$300. They would have less wear and tear on the screen in terms of scratches and it would respond faster than one with a higher mileage. I've personally went this route and just use the bluetooth adapter for spotify.

That looks like it sits too low in the dash to be usable when driving.
