Foam mats on either side of engine

When I replaced the coolant components on my engine, I pulled those ugly foam mats off the side of the engine. It seems like a great way to heat up electronic components that would prefer to be cooler. I can't say that I notice a huge difference in noise, either.

Anyone else get rid of these?

Nope, they stop a certain amount of noise, also to stop chafing somewhat as well.

Also to make things snug and more of a pain in the ass than they need to be.

I managed to get the job done with them in place, it was a bit fiddly though.

If you do any type of off pavement driving, you want to have them ON.

They help protect things from getting into your injectors, like sand. There were a lot of sand around the injectors before and after pulling the injectors. Tedious vacuuming in the injector ports and cylinder to get sand pebble out of 8 cylinders, not fun. Took me a few hours. If someone else were to service my injectors, I'm pretty sure they would have left it as-is.
