Went to reset the service indicator post oil-change, as a good opportunity to try out the IID tool. I scanned codes while I was there and got a B1163-15 code from both Driver Door Module (DDM) and Passenger Door Module (PDM), about "heater output - General electrical failure - circuit short to battery or open"

I did a search here for that code and came up empty handed, though some suggested the heated windshield is somehow linked - my heated windshield works fine from what I've seen, and the washer nozzles likewise. Funnily, I'd brought up the issue that the side mirrors never seemed do defrost, and was always told "the car decides when to run them, there's no way to test". Looking at the wiring diagram, it seems the heating element is powered via the DDM/PDM, which itself is protected by a 25A fuse. I'll go pop the mirrors off and test them with my multimeter, but are there other things I should check?

Checked the mirror elements: driver's side measured at 360 Ohm, passenger side at 480 Ohm. The fact they're so different, and quite high, makes me think they're likely the culprit. Anyone know what the resistance value should be?

12V with 360 ohm resistance would put like 1/2 watt through the element, and that's not heating anything up... Sounds like you found the culprit...

My side mirrors heaters did not work and both were throwing the same error because my windshield heater element was broken.
After replacing the windshield, driver side mirror and windshield would defrost fine but the passenger side mirror still wouldn't work and throw the code.

After popping off the glass on passenger side mirror and scrubbing both wire terminals and glass terminals with sandpaper and metal brush - everything got to work just fine.

So try to scrub terminals with sandpaper and metal brush and measure resistance again. If it reads sensible values (I think mine was well below 100 Ohm, I don't remember exactly but something like 10-30 Ohm maybe?) then connect it back, test and it should work :)

Also I think the sidemirror heating turns on automatically and independently from the windshield heating, based on temperature reading.
And I think the code pops up only when the car is trying to turn on sidemirror heating and fails. So it's probably very hard to troubleshoot this once winter is over...

Here’s some info on the mirrors if it helps.

I did find that section in the workshop manual, but it doesn't say what nominal resistance should be. I'll try cleaning the connectors and maybe get lucky. I know the windshield heat works, so I don't think it's related to that (thankfully)

I had/have a similar situation in that I had two codes thrown:

"B13C2-96 (2C) Windshield Misting sensor Component Failure - internal failure" popping up along with (and I assumed unrelated);
"B1164-15 (2F) Right mirror heater output - General Electrical Failure Circuit Short to Battery or Open"

So, I replaced the windshield sensor and in the process of doing that the mirror code went away and has not returned so I thought problem solved! Then I further read you saying the side mirror could operate independent of the windshield and is temperature dependent and of course the last few days around here have been in the 50's so maybe it's just not turning on. Darn! Supposed to be cold later this week so we'll see.

I got new mirror glass, US passenger side part LR013776 tested at 6.9 ohm. US drivers side, part number LE013777, tested at 5.6 ohm.

Sorry to dig up an old thread I'm likewise getting B1163-15 (drivers door - US) and B1164-15 (passengers door - US). I'd like to take a look at the mirror and check the connection etc. as listed above. How do you remove the mirror, is it just a case of pulling on it? I'd prefer not to break it! Thanks.
