...not the little cup that easily comes out, but the plastic carriage that the cup rides in?

Somehow the metal spring which makes the ashtray pop out on demand has come loose, fallen behind the ashtray drawer, and I can't get it to close all the way! The little tray that the ashtray sits in is a separate piece of plastic, but i can't see how it comes up and don't want to break it.

anyway, it looks like i have to remove it to get behind the tray and get the spring (folded piece of metal)

thanks! (I'm past warranty, and its not worth my deductable)

I had the same thing happen to mine. I didn't mess with it; I just had my service dpt. look at it upon my next visit and they fixed it under warranty.

Does anyone have access to the service manual who can forward on the instructions? It has to be pretty simple, but, I can't see any easy way of removing it.

Thanks!

I'm sorry, I have to be a pest and ping this thread again... :frown:

...it is SO annoying to have that ashtray not close all the way! And I really don't want to pay the $100 extended warranty deductable to get it fixed. Somebody MUST know how to remove the entire drawer assembly?!?! :help:

Todd,

I would take it to the stealer, it is a major operation (for that little piece).

First you should take of the gearshift (pull it upwards), next you have to unclip the floor console upper panel (8 clips if I remeber correctly), after this take the little ruber matt and the plastic tray off in front of the ashtray. Now take off the central console suround (4 clips) and from the top remove the hazard switch panel, radio, A/C and now you can remove the ashtray unit (you need trox screwdriver).

I am writing this from memory, I did this two years ago...

Regards, Arpad

Good info...enough to know I should stop f**king with it because I'm going to break it and yes its more trouble then I want to go through on my own. Great feedback.

From GTR:
All vehicles
1 . Remove the floor console.
For additional information, refer to Floor Console (76.25.01)

2 . Move the front seats fully backwards.

3 . Remove the audio unit.
For additional information, refer to Audio Unit (86.50.81)

4 . Remove the climate control assembly. Disconnect the 4 electrical connectors.

5 . Remove the instrument panel console switch pack. Remove the 2 Torx screws.
Disconnect the electrical connector.
6 . Remove the cigar lighter assembly. Remove the 2 Torx screws.
Release the 3 clips.
Disconnect the 3 electrical connectors.

Essentially:, gut the console, and part of the IP, then pull the two screws. No fun @ all, unless you are into that kind of thing...

Thanks for all the detail.
Wow.
What a pain in the ass!

Guess its waiting until I have a couple other things to warrant the deductable....I just can't justify paying $100 for an ashtray.

Todd, it sounds complicated, but it really is easy. Mine came with the dual outlet 12v and not the ashtray. I just switched them out last weekend. It took a total of about 30 minutes. Look on ebay for roversland.inc they usually have good deals on things like ashtrays and such.
