Hey there I am an idiot cause I just bought a broke down 96 discovery. The guy who sold it to me said that it had a fuel line problem to explain the ridiculous high idle and tendency for the engine to die. Yesterday a freind looking at the vehicle discovered that all four 02 sensors had been replaced with 3 inch bolts!! We couldnt find the wirng for the sensors either. When we hooked it up to a computer it showed all types of errors, sensors galore seemed to have problems but my freind said that might be because of the missing four 02 sensors. the engine does run good although the exhaust is spittin black smoke because its so friggen hot. tranny shifts good but I cant drive this thing with the crazy idle. Any ideas for some help? I dont want to get rid of this thing I want to fix it but money is definately anissue. Oh it's only got 113,000 miles on it. Much thanks for any assistance or advice. I live in wisconsin in the madison area!

You're looking for 4 connectors, female, that connect to the male end shown here.

Hopefully they are just ******* somewhere and he didn't cut them off.
Look on the back of the engine right above the bell housing. IIRC they come out of the same harness as the injector leads (but I may be wrong on that).

Everyone's going to yell at me now, but I bought (4) ngk o2's (about $50 ea) five years ago.

If you're on the same budget as me---

I had to splice in the wires to the old connectors (solder, shrink tube).(same wiring colors)

They've worked great.

Once you find your wires, I'd find some used, try them,if they work, great, if they don't then replace all four, but you'll have the connectors then.

Commonly the high idle is a filthy idle air control, IAC--- clean it with wd40 & a toothbrush--- be careful don't move the stem

luck,greg

Hey thanks for the info! What would it run like with no 02 sensors like I've got going on right now I'm just wondering if there are more problems with this thing. would the 02 sensors being taken out as they were cause this vehicle to run excessively rich and make the cat get hot with a bad idle? th exhaust fumes are super black and I'm hoping that is only because the 02 sensors are gone and thats making it run ultra rich. Does this make sense?
