Well, it happened to my D just now. 2015 Red Rover picked up something and the crack runs through the drivers line of sight (haven't even seen it yet...) - so I need a new windscreen to pass the next inspection.

I would much prefer an original Rover Branded, but at the least a PPG (is it PPG right??) OEM, but not Rover Branded.

I have never been able to locate anyone in Houston that will even entertain the idea of any glass but their local cheap junk.

So I need a vendor for the glass please - and if there are any Houston folks (Clear Lake if possible), any local installers that will work with me on this...

Can anyone say another video - cowl and windscreen....

Thanks!

Pilkington is the OE. Cowl is just the OE LR branded part. I think it's around $130.

There's no more safety inspections anymore. Just emissions.
Cracked windshield won't fail the inspection.

Those side covers are critical to get right and the windshield needs to be set perfectly. My windshield didn't get lined up perfectly so when there is a side-wind on the freeway the pillar covers make noise.

See the thread below - one thing worth noting if you don't get the right windshield will be a couple new DTC codes as well as some issues if you have AFS (and the auto wiper and auto high beam assist functions).

My lessons learned - replace with an OEM windshield.

For what it is worth, below are jpg's showing the branding of two of the three or four electrically heated windscreens I have had installed over the past twenty years. I have the HID headlights but they do not swivel and high beam selection is via the steering column stock, not automatic.

The first jpg is I think the original factory heated windscreen from Pilkington of the UK. If not, the original was Saint-Gobian brand out of France and the Pilkington is a replacement. The second jpg is what is now in my 3, PGW, sort of USA but manufacturers in China as that is apparently the new name for the older PPG, Pittsburgh Plate Glass from USA, auto glass division. PPG flat glass division is now owned by Vitro of Mexico and only makes flat glass. PGW purchased the auto glass line from PPG.

I do have the rain sensing wipers and they have always worked as they should. Well once they quit the rain sensing function but that was because the small rectangular box had become unstuck from the inside surface of the glass located behind the mirror.

What I am getting at is I doubt windscreen glass is the problem. I have noticed however that the early far east heated glass windscreens tended to show the wires much more than the OEM, however the far east product has improved quite a bit so ...

Also new A pillar covers and the associated yellow plastic clips are sometimes a good idea. If noise persists due to the little rubber strip being missing, 3M black electrical tape applied to the gap between the A pillar cover and the glass solves the problem and can be hardly noticeable.
