2011 LR4 HSE oil question

I just bought this vehicle from a guy. I went to change the oil and pulled out a total of 15 quarts of oil from the vehicle. How many quarts does this vehicle supposed to have? Everywhere I’ve read it takes 8.5 quarts but there was one website that says it takes 11.5 quarts. Please help!

I believe you pulled out the coolant with the oil

The oil change refill is 8.5 quarts (what you would vacuum or drain out) and the total oil in the engine (i.e. in the sump) is 10.5.

15 is a bit strange....

I always put in about 8.5 us quarts and when removing get about 8 quarts. oil changes every 5k miles

Did the engine run before you drained it all? What color was the oil?

oil I pulled out was dark to black color

yes I did run the engine. I put in 8.5quarts as recommended and when I checked the level it said it was full. I drove it for about 20 miles and checked again and now it says the level is at minimum. Why don’t these damn things come with a dipstick instead trusting this electronic reading. I kinda feel like it’s not reading correctly. And I’ve been checking under the vehicle and I see no leaks.

When I drained it I drained it completely….should I add a few more quarts?
