Hey all... My 2000 LR2 started throwing 4 codes yesterday: 0173, 0174, 0004, 1100. They showed once, I swiped them. They came back within 5 minutes of driving. There are no driving issues whatsoever and no unusual noises. She just got a new serpentine belt, new synthetic oil, and new air filter. I Seafoamed the gas and oil about two weeks/500 miles ago. I Did not do the air intake. She's at 60,400 miles. There are in fact, no problems with the vehicle whatsoever. Aside from needing a couple new tires:)

Here's what I've found:
0173 - Fuel trim malfunction, bank 2
0174 - Oxygen Sensor System Too Lean Fault Bank B
0004 - Fuel Volume Regulator Control Circuit High
1100 - Mass air flow sensor intermittent

I *am* using 87, yeah yeah. And I *had* a K&N on for about a month, but took it off about 2 weeks ago. I didn't add any oil to it; it had been on my Jetta for a year but sitting for a year before I slapped it on the LR2.

I'm thinking I should/can clean the MAF with electrical circuit cleaner. But my questions are these:
-Please confirm this is not an 87 octane issue
-Can Seafoam do this?
-Can one month of K&N do this?
-Any other possibilities beyond dirty MAF? Or fried MAF?

Thanks all
-Aaron

Sounds like either a MAF issue or you have carbon build up...

its a discovery series 2...dont get caught up in the lr3 crap that ford usa pulled...its discovery 3 everywhere else...lol...dont worry im not really bein mean, just jokin, but i personally didnt like the name change in the us....

id go with joey in that its probably just dirty, did you inspect the k/n before you put it on? coulda had dirt bugs whatever crawls around in jettas in it? 87 octane wont really hurt you too bad, but it could lead to increased buildup of carbon on the injectors probably...

Lol... my license plate is "LR2" ;-)

I did not inspect the K&N before I put it on. I had taken it off the Jetta and into it's box where it stayed til I put it on the Disco. I didn't see any difference so I took it off and put a shiny new normal filter on instead. Lol... bugs in the Jetta:) You know, my VR6 Jetta and this Disco are quite similar. Very finicky pieces of equipment. I cleaned the MAF with aerosol electrical contact cleaner, we'll see how she holds up tomorrow during it's 40 mile route. I'll pour some more Seafoam in as well ~ the MAF in the Disco is very similar if not outright identical to that in my VR6... which also went bad. They were both Boschs, same size, design and fitment. Interesting.... VW eventually started selling refurbed units at a significant discount over new ($84 vs. $400+), reportedly to avoid a lawsuit. Judging by my recent visit to a Land Rover parts counter, I doubt they'll be making the same decision....

Anyways, thanks to both of you for your ideas..... Either way it just involves some hearty cleaning:)

Light hasn't come back on yet after cleaning the MAF. THEORY: Problem from the switch to Ethanol from MTBE? Anyone have any reactions to the new additive????? Have been reading about local SAABs not starting after the switch from MTBE... wondering if this is a common issue ~
