While a locking diff in front is nice, I've always questioned how valuable it really is....maybe because I don't have one!

For real though, usually you need help going UP hills, not down...and in those cases all the weight is in the back anyway. Between that and 4ETC, I just don't know how much traction it would add.

In the case of the G-Wagen though, it needs those lockers since it doesn't have traction control (I don't think, unless MB added it later) or the extraordinary articulation of a Land Rover.
Extraordinary articulation of which Land Rover? Because as we all know, certain Rovers have more articulation than others

I actually want to do a test between locking diffs on a wagon, and Land Rover traction control. Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a G-Wagon

G-Wagons are notorious for being stiff and not having much wheel travel, but I still think they probably have as much or more than an LR4, just with them being solid axle.

My local dealership (Land Rover Merriam) took a '18 G550 to its annual off-road event a week ago (the dealership family also sells Mercedes right next door). Unfortunately for it, it was on what were probably 22" wheels and what looked like summer street tires. Unfortunately for me, I was in a different group than it so didn't see how well it did. It was really muddy on the trails that day and I overheard it had to be towed at least once.

Get some equal testing, 19" vs 19" or 18" vs 18", etc., I'd **** to see how they compare

Looks like there's an "S" model that will accept 18" wheels. It appears to be the lowest model, and I'm wondering if we'll even get it in the U.S. It's what a lot of people would want, though. Kinda looks like a model without much fuss, including "performance material" seats.

Of course, it could be that they all accept 18" wheels, but the S is the only one that comes with them.

Not sure who took those photos, or what kind of circa-2003 camera they used, but some of those words are hard to read.

Like, I'm assuming the S model says 18" wheels, but I guess it could just be saying 19" wheels.

Also looks like a lot of stuff in there that they are promising will come in the future. The 130 is slated for 2022. The D300 diesel engine is 2021. Etc.

The 130 looks like it’s a year out not 3. Pretty sure the S says “18” not 19. They weren’t using a James Bond camera that’s for sure.
