I own a 2001 Land Rover Disco. SE7 the self-leveling air bags in the rear wheels are always deflating as soon as i stop driving and have the car parked for the time being.

when i begin driving again i have to hold the self -leveling button and allow it to level off.

this i didnt have a problem with... now when i wait at a red light for a while or even while i'm driving the air bags will deflate leaving me bouncing around and having to activate the self-leveling switch again; which in some cases they do not inflate on the first attempt.

I know that the air bags are bad, but what does fixing the problem entail?

-how much will it cost for airbags or shocks?
- if i put springs/shocks will that be better?

I say go for springs. The airbags tend to go bad, and if it's not the airbags then it's the compressor. All those parts are expensive and for the same cost you can usually convert to reliable springs. I'm not sure how much it is for a Discovery, but my Range Rover compressor was $600 and for $600 I got an entire new set of coild springs for my entire vehicle... Huge money saver in the long run, and 100% reliable, but entirely not as flashy and functional as a car that goes up and down. You can check Rover's North or possibly RoverTym if you want to do it yourself.... Or you can try to find someone local to you.... Unless you live in NC or CT though I cannot recomend anyone I trust...

Sounds like bad air bags.... you can either convert (my normal suggestion) or I know that strutmasters (the current owners of this site) offer a lifetime warranty on their air bags... not a bad option and very easy to change as a do it yourself project about 1.5 hours work.
