so there are no updates...hmmm.

With Bluetooth, it can be "both"... interoperability can be imperfect. My Motorola V3 works fine with the PTI over Bluetooth.
Do you know anyone with a later model Blackberry phone you can try? And just to verify it's not your specific car that is "broken", try your phone on a Land Rover with PTI at your dealer.

Blackberry 7290 Works Fine w/ LR3 BT System
I took a test drive in an '06 HSE this evening and my BB7290 connected fine w/ the LR3's BT system. Even made a 2 calls at the salesperson's suggestion. One through my phone and the other through the dial pad on the radio. Mind you, this was an '06 model that came w/ BT from the factory (not sure if this answers your question on the BB compatibility - hope it does).
Looking to purchase an LR3 in the next few days....just looking for the right combination of options and price.
FYI - I'm a newbie and this forum as well as everyone in it is extremely helpful!

I actaully paired my 7100t with the LR3 last night and it worked like a charm. MUST be a problem with the 8700's BT or firmware. There is no fireware upgrade at this point, so I am not sure what my options are.
Planning to hit the BB forums up later this am, and possibly a call to Cingular and/or RIM for a replacement device.

I just bought a 2005 LR3. Is a retrofit bluetooth kit available? Any idea of cost?
The microphone is used for your voice control and the keypad is used for the stereo. 
The Land Rover add-on PTI will use the built-in microphone and the vehicle speakers... the difference is that unlike the factory PTI, the keypad doesn't work and it's Bluetooth only. It's also missing the hardwired cradle option to allow phonebook integration (which has an external antenna & charging capability for the few compatible phones.) It's just expensive for the minimal features it offers.
A 3rd party solution will offer more features and cost less, but there is no way it'll integrate more than just muting the stereo while active. You can go ahead and try the dealer install PTI if your goal is to be as close to OEM as possible, but you may be disappointed.

That's about as clear an explanation as I've heard. My wife has an BMW X5 and all you have to do is step into the car with a Bluetooth phone and off you go. I don't understand LR's difficulty with this concept. The same goes with satellite radio. That pretty screen on the dash should control the phone, satellite radio and (dare I say) an MP3 device, as well. At least there's an Aux jack on the car.
