I did this on my sons lr4 V8 back in the spring. LR oem front crossover pipes about $125, rear heat manifold about $150, LR waterpump about $300, LR thermostat and housing about $75 plus a few odds and ends and 1 gal of LR coolant--total parts about $700. Took me about 6-7 hours then a leisurly hour or so to vacuum fill the system and test. IMHO, these parts are critical parts for the LR4 and i really only trusted myself to complete properly. If you have a spare weekend, it really is not that difficult [well, the rear heat manifold is a &$(^] but it is not rocket science

Same experience as above. Same motivation as well. Added walnut blasting intake valves ( had stuff already) and radiator as it showed a tiny pinhole ( pea size white calcification on outer edge).

I will likely do my own next time, but it's not a daily so if it ends up with a bit more downtime than anticipated that's OK. I think Brian here uses his as a daily, so I totally understand getting it done. It's just a matter of finding a trustworthy place to do it. In my experience with my local JLR dealer, the quoted prices seem to be in line with trying to get you to trade in for a new car instead, which is a shame but I can understand from a business perspective.

Doing the job yourself is admittedly a PITA. I don't know how long it actually took me, but (for example) I had to create a jig that let me pull straight up on the supercharger, whose pins were corroded in place. I would guess it easily took me 8-10 hours in all. The benefit, if one is to be had, is that I now know a lot more about failure points and the engine in general.

I believe it. When I was doing mine, I was afraid of damaging what I was prying on, and what I was using as a fulcrum that I couldn't see. So I ended up using straps and making sure that the fulcrum was outside the engine bay on a wooden frame. Abundance of caution and all.
