After hitting a Kangaroo in my 97 SE7 a front end rebuild was in order. the vehicle was in the panel shop for 5 weeks sitting idle and when I got it back I h d a range of problems to deal with. After having every computer reset in this thing, the cruse control would not work and having checked every hose connection it was down to fault finding the hardware. I have it down to the pump, whixh runs very slow and cannot pull enough vac.
has anyone taken this thing appart and if so is it possible to repair or rebuild? would like to ask this question before i pull the pump out.

Pulling the pump is a 2 minute job... at least on a Left hand drive Disco.

if it is running slow, it sounds like it was damaged in the Kangaroo accident. I would just find a junk yard(breakers) and get another one.

I would also build a bigger bumper.

Thanks for the reply, I pulled the pump and opened it up, there is not much to these things and after a quick look I worked out how it all works, I tested the motor and it was a little slow so after a clean, dry it out with compressed air and some lubricant it ran fine. these is a small relay that was stuck in the open position so I freed it up and cleaned the contact points. After re-fitting it all it works as advertised.
as for the bigger bumper, there is not much I can do there, I have a front bar which took a big hit. Kangaroo's are built like trees and have a tripod base so usually cause a lot of damage. if I was in another machine the damage would have been worse.

Re: Roo-Bar

What sort of Roo-Bar do you have as I have heard good things about the ARB (made right there in Oz)?

I have an ARB steel winch bar with Land Rover Spots modified with 150 watt aircraft landing light globes. the impact sheered the mount bolts and caused the bar to be driven back into the grill and bonnet. the bar was fine appart from some paint scratches.

I have since changed the mount points so the brackets are doubled up and fitted longer hi-sheer mount bolts that are in tripple sheer load. the main damage was under the vehicle when the roo bounced off the bar and went under the front end at 110 kmh.

This sounds impressive - any chance you can send/post some e-pix of your ARB roo-bar? We don't have any roos up our way but deer are all over the place (infested would not be too strong a word) and since I am installing an ARB roo-bar myself - I am interested in your mods.

Same issue with my cruise control. Didn't hit a roo, it just stopped working. Where is the pump located on US models.
Thanks!

If it is the pump (normally it is a vacuum leak if the cruise light comes on), it is located behind the drivers headlight, remove the jack to access. Look in the hole and it will be there.
