I have a 97 disco with 197000 miles. I recently purchased the vehicle and have replaced front driveshaft & U joints. I started changing fluids and have changed fluids in both diffs.
I checked the CV and all I could see is grease. The rave manual shows that the CV's should have 90w gear oil. The question is should I add 90w to the grease or add grease only? If grease only, what grease? Thanks, Wade

First, as part of the service, you should, especially at that mileages, inspect/clean and replace as necessary all 4 wheels hub bearings. You must also get the preload reset for your swivel joints. As for the grease, Rover , long ago up-graded to a special grease instead of the old gear oil.
Might want to down load a free Rave CD, shop manual, so you can find your way around your truck.

Thanks for the reply DiscoMike. I was getting my info from the rave manual. It states the following "The wheel bearings are lubricated with grease and the swivel housing and differential with oil." When I pulled the plug to inspect the swivel housing the only thing I could see is grease. So I was a little confused. Do I need to put the NLGI-2 multipurpose grease in the swivel housing? Maybe I am missing something. Thanks again for the help. Wade

Ump: there is a special swivel housing grease. Sold in 370 gm bottle. Not as viscous as wheel bearing grease. I'm a purist that is resisting using it as I like to drain and refill with 80/90 oil. Call me stupid.
