I have 115K miles on my 2000 Disco II (I swear I'm going to drive that thing until the wheels fall off and the engine blows up!) and I'd like to perform a tune-up on it. Can someone please post the LR factory Tune-up procedure? I have the RAVE Workshop Manual CD, and can anyone tell me if it's located on the CD? Realistically, how much time will it take for me to change the spark plugs, etc? I consider myself fairly handy, and have already replaced the front brakes, along with a few other maintenance jobs on my Disco.

Of course, like many other posters on this forum, my Disco has the dreaded 3 amigos! I spoke with a mechanic yesterday and he suggested I simply clean the ABS sensors, and after reading many of the posts on this forum, I have to say the mechanic I spoke to was honest about the whole thing! (It's not like mechanics can't be honest, but...) Once I clean the ABS sensor, will the 3 amigos automatically turn off, or will I have to get someone to turn them off for me? I'm going to give that a shot and hope it works. Thanks again for all the help!!!

If it is a dirty sensor they 3 A's will go off, but it could also be the shuttle valve or modulator bad.

Time to perform tune up depends on what all you are changing and how small or large your hands are.

Small hands with wires, plugs, oil, air filter. About 2 hours

Large hands with same... about 4 hours and lots of cursing or bloody wrist or just removal of the intake.

Tune up progress

Thanks again, Joey, for your tips, and you were just about spot on regarding the amount of time it would take to perform the tune-up. I was able to change plugs, clean the MAF, and install a new air filter in just about 2 hours. I started it up, and the Service Engine Soon light went off! I am quite relieved, and now I can send back the MAF I just ordered through British Pacific!

Now I'm trying to tackle the 3-amigos problem. I was able to remove and clean the ABS sensor on the driver's side, but as I was installing the caliper, the caliper guide pin bolt stripped! Argh! I have to wait until Monday AM so I can go to the dealership and get a new. However, on the passenger side, I removed the caliper, but the rotor is stuck to the hub. It will not come off! I have sprayed lots of WD-40, but it won't budge. Do you have any tips on how to remove the rotor? It's quite frustrating, so any advice would be helpful.

Thanks again!

Hold onto your MAF for at least a week to make sure the other one isn't bad... Could still be an issue.

As far as the rotor... I would buy a new on and get a big F Hammer

ABS Update

Joey,
Thanks again! I got a big hammer, but without damaging the rotor, I was able to remove it. I cleaned the ABS sensors, but the 3 amigos are still glaring at me. I think the next step in troubleshooting this is replacing the shuttle valve? Is that the order in which you would proceed? It's much cheaper than replacing the ABS modulator, so I think that's what I'll try next.

Thanks again for the advice! :proud:

Unless you actually have a bad ABS sensor, then yes the next step is the shuttle valve.

Bad ABS sensor

Joey,
What's the procedure to troubleshoot whether or not I have a bad ABS sensor?

Thanks again!

You will need to have the ABS codes read. Not sure on the D2 if this can be done by yourself or not, I thought it was and posted the info awhile back, but got responses saying that it didn't work.

So I presume either the dealer or someone with Testbook will be needed to read the ABS codes.

ABS Codes

Joey,
I had the codes pulled a couple of weeks ago, and the only ABS code is as follows:

P1590 - ABS Road Signal Circuit Malfunction.

The error code description from the RAVE CD-ROM Manual states the following:

P1590 - ABS Road Signal Circuit Malfunction. Hardware is OK, but SLABS ECU is sending an error signal

Does this mean I won't have to buy any new hardware to fix the problem?

Thanks again for your help!

Did you have the codes pulled via an OBDII scanner or testbook? If OBDII scanner, than I wouldn't trust it for ABS codes. If testbook, then I am sure it would have said more.
