Hi I am ruba from Dubai and have a Discovery II 2004,
Bringing the car for service at the dealers workshop at 127,000 km I got told
that engine coolent is leaking from the head gasket and oil is leaking from the
lower part of the engine ( housing ). After 2 weeks they send me a fax saying
the repair cost would be 54,000.-- DHS = 15,000.-- USD.
I had no overheating nor loss of power so far and would like to know how I can
get the car repaired - certainly not in that dealers garage.

Welcome to the forum.. the issues you are talking about are normal on most Land Rover... they leak oil, when it stops you have issues.

Coolant leak from the head gasket this is also pretty common. Just make sure you don't overheat it and check the coolant level at least 1 time a week. I have been doing this on my 97 Disco for 4 years and haven't changed any gaskets yet...

Hi Joey,
you have made my day - thanks for your info. Will get the service done by
another mechanic and change gear oil as well.

to Joey,
I am ruba from Dubai and have now 10,000 km more on the clock since the local
dealer's workshop told me to change the engine due to coolent leakage from the
head gasket and some minor oil leakage from the lower engine casing.
Now the engine is developing noice from the overhead cam-shaft - tappers? it sounds
like taktaktaktak. How can I adjust that?
would appreciate any input on this one.

thanks and have a good weekend.

No adjustment required... sounds like the oil pick tube is clogged or the oil pump is going bad... (pump is a known issues).

Drop the oil pan and clean the pan and the oil tube... You may even want to change the oil pump as a precaution.

Love Dubai by the way... spent a week there a long time ago...
