I just noticed that my passenger side HID headlight went out :(

There is no warning or indication that the bulb was out but it should? Also, it's a 2013 with factory HID and the bulb should last much longer right? I never had to replace factory hid bulbs in any of my other cars.

Any of you experienced this?

It usually not the bulb, they have a 30,000-50,000 hour burn time in automotive applications.
More than likely it's the ballast for the HID.

I've never replaced the ballast before...is it pretty straightforward?

It should be straightforward to change the ballast.

So I took off the passenger headlight today trying to figure out if it was the bulb or ballast that failed. After removing the headlight, it made a lot of noises which I thought was strange. Since I do a lot of desert off-roading I thought somehow fine sand got into the headlamp. Anyway I went and remove the bulb and to my surprise, the bulb was shattered in pieces thus the weird noises! Why the heck would the bulb explode on its own???
