I’m finding it’s very hard to get any straight information on a 2012 Land Rover LR4 so called “Low Pressure” fuel pump. I had recall work done to replace the flange on the tank filter and was told that the low pressure pump is at about 40%. I admit I’m not well versed on my Land Rover, but can’t find any part labeled as a low pressure fuel pump. Maybe I’m not looking in the right places. Any thoughts?

40% of what? How many miles on the truck?

That said... my in-tank, low-pressure fuel pump failed in my 2010, at 160kmi in Dec-2024. Wouldn't be a bad idea to replace proactively if your mileage is over 100k or so. Bummer this wasn't done with the flange upgrade since the pump is easily accessible with the flange off.

Search the forum for more details / photos of the pump replacement. I'd only use OE or OEM pumps, everything else will be SuperChina.

:help:

Mine was replaced before I bought the rig, 91k mi / 146,419 km. Not sure why they replaced it but when I dug up the service history it was listed.

Replaced the low-pressure fuel pump on my '16 LR4 @ ~100k miles when the flange was upgraded.

It's possible they were reading the duty cycle. I believe the pump will run at about 45% at start-up when the system is calling for higher pressure (around 100 psi on the low pressure side). Once the car is running, I think that should drop to about 35% if I'm remembering correctly. If the tech told you it was at 40% and was referring to the duty cycle, I'm not sure whether he was inferring that the pump was bad. Did he say you should replace it?

If you have a scanner, you can look at the low pressure fuel level (both desired (called for) and actual - see if they are close) and the duty cycle. The latest version of the GAP Tool software now has these parameters. I also tested a thinkscan tool, and it could read these fields as well. The other thing you can look at with a scanner is fuel trim. If the LP pump (or some other part of the LP system) is failing and not delivering the required pressure, I believe it will cause positive fuel trims.

If you are not having drivability issues or throwing codes, the pump is probably okay.
