First, Let me say I am new to this forum and apologize if this is too common a question.

Here's the situation. It seems like the '06 has some great 30 month lease options on the LR3 V8 SE and some great purchase prices as well. I can either purchase or lease the vehicle. I am trying to decide which is the better value. If purchased, I would just pay out with my HELOC after about $13K down. Considering I plan to keep this vehicle for 30-36 months, what would you do? What is a good deal? Should I try to work it down more? Thanks in advance!

Here's what I've been quoted:

Purchase @ $41700 before tax and license (Edmunds TMV @ $41772)
2006 LR3 V8 SE with
# Cold Climate Package
# Rear Seat Package
# Rear Climate Package
# Satellite Radio

or

Lease @ $632 including tax for 30 months ($1167 down) MSRP $49700
Money factor .00175. 12K miles a year. Residual $33299
2006 LR3 V8 SE with
# Cold Climate Package
# Rear Seat Package
# Rear Climate Package
# Satellite Radio

or

Purchase @ $37600 before tax and license (Edmunds TMV @ $37670)
2006 LR3 V6 with
# Cold Climate Package
# "SE" Premium Package
# Rear Seat Package
# Rear Climate Package

PS. Purchase prices are equivalent to $8K off MSRP. Should I be getting a better deal on the lease?!

LR3 V8 SE ($50250 msrp , $45792 invoice , $50195 TMV)

LR3 V6 ($45650 msrp , $41606 invoice , $45550 TMV )

Lease it. Here's why: the resale on the V6 is going to suck and you want to trade in about three years you say. It's not so bad with the SE but still, lease it. There are far too many HSE's rolling around. Given the choice of a used car market, the smart buying is always going to take the high line model. Just lease it, nice and confined variables, you know all financial info up front. If you know this is a short term vehicle, get a lease. I got a 39 month on an HSE.

I'm with wayfarer on the lease. I just bought an 05 SE with 24K miles Loaded in Java Black. Certified, Extended, new tires. for 34K so the residual looks right. You might try for more miles though. 15K/year sounds more like it.

Something else to consider. Land Rover is kicking back $6,000 to the dealer below wholesale cost through Jan 8th

Details here

I think you could negotiate a lot further with the dealer on a puchase right now. Not sure how that "Marketing Support" program works with leases.
