I have a 2005 LR3 and for a while now I have been getting the random dash messages "Cruise Control Not Available". Also, randomly, but less frequently, I have also been getting an HDC transmission fault, something like "HDC Fault System Not Available Transmission Fault". After the HDC fault, the LR3 lowers and the ABS light comes on.

I have a code reader and scanned the codes. Nothing came up for the Cruise Control (but I want to try scanning it again). For the HDC fault, I got this code: U0102 Lost Communication with Transfer Case Control Module.

Turning off the LR3 and restarting "fixes the problem" temporarily.

Finally, I think it is unrelated. But, I will bring it up just in case it isn’t somehow. The speaker in the driver side door also cuts in and out when the volume is turned low.

I have read a lot of posts about the cruise control. The general consensus seems to be replacing the "clock spring" in the steering wheel. I have read a lot of posts about the HDC. The general consensus seems to be replacing the battery (which I about a year ago). But, I have not seen a post where someone is dealing with both . . . .

My question is: Has anyone had to deal with all of these situations before? If so, what was the fix? If not, has anyone

When's the last time you had a new battery, i'm on my third. It's nice to have a code reader, but often it leads to over analysis. If your battery is 2 years old or more, that would be my first suspect. Computers go haywire when battery voltage is lower than expected. Beyond that... let's see where it goes!

I prefer Interstate, others would electrocute me for saying that.

cheers

I had a similar issue with the speaker cutting in and out. At low volumes, the woofer would stop working, until I cranked up the volume and then the speaker would "pop" back in. This seems to be a common issue on other forums. I was able to fix the problem by removing the driver's door panel and disconnecting then reconnecting the plastic speaker attachment. The problem has not come back since. I'm guessing the connector was not firmly attached in the first place, but I don't know why the issue is seen on so many vehicles.

What did you find out? I have just now started to experience the same problem and also replaced the battery almost exactly one year ago as well.

same HDC fault here. Suspension lowers and yellow brake light is illuminated on the dash. Hill Decent Control, its a transmission control for descending slopes. I heard that a system upgrade can fix the problem...but not sure. I have to turn the rover off and on twice to get it to go away. The longest time I have gone in between warnings was 8 months...shortest was about 20 min. Sometimes it comes on immediately after tapping the brake while the cruise is set. hmmm dreading taking it to the dealer.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I did replace the brake light switch and (knock on wood) have not had the HDC fault since. But, the "cruise control not permitted" fault is still a mystery. I am now getting it more frequently - usually once or twice a week.

cruise control issues we have had being these 3 clock spring, switches, and brake light switch . you should probably look into getting the clock spring replaced.
