Just to note, make sure you know what your HDC is set at when you engage it. If you're inching down a hill in 1st gear at 3 mph and you decide to switch on the HDC and it's set for a higher mph, you are going to accelerate and possibly panic. Been there done that! Now my HDC is set at 2.5 mph and I can dial it down further in action using the - (cruise control) button on the steering wheel. Worked great going down a steep icy hill.

Houm_WA, can't you just drive a few miles up the road to Vancouver and get the MT/R's?

Hey LR3_WA, too bad Hawks. . .Bummer. I go to WA on business all the time. Last week I rented a brand new (7 miles) Jeep Commander 4x4. I took it off road up some Tacoma/Federal Way area hils down by the bay. It does not compare to the LR3 at all!

Any good quick two track type of trails around the Federal Way area?

LR3_WA, thanks for the feedback. Too bad about the Hawks, huh? ...but the Bears pretty much outplayed them today and best of luck to them the rest of the way.

nwoods, do we have any confirmation that the MT/R's are on sale in Canada? I didn't think they were selling 'em in North America at all....otherwise yeah, I'll probably go up and get 'em or look for them there and order them and pay the shipping.

...not sure they're available.

Well...LR3inVancouver wears them on his HSE. I am pretty sure he said he got them locally. I think the problem is in NA is just with the US DOT, not a continental availability issue.

The Hawks have lived and now died by the FG ! Winning on the last play, the flub by Dallas and then a 49 yarder in OT against the Bears !

Houm_WA - Looking on the .ca website for Goodyear MT/R I don't see any 18" or 19" (maybe it is that metric system)

schafari - Sorry, I use my LR3 to take my bike up on the trails. I use trails.com try under http://www.trails.com/stateactivity.asp?area=14740 for WA off-road vehicle trails.

Happy Trails !

Well over the last few days down here in Vancouver, WA I've found that the stock goodyears really do suck badly in snow and ice. My wife slid into a jeep the other day while going around a turn. The LR3 just plowed around the turn like the tires were bald. Damage was very minimal to our car (broken fog light and some plastic bits) but the jeep didn't fare so well.

I had the anti lock brakes going like crazy this morning on my drive in. That's with 1 inch of snow on the ground and no ice.

I'm going to start looking for some 18" rims and buy some terra grapplers. I'm tired of no traction.

I'm not sure the terra grapplers would not be worse (or at least no better) on sheer ice like it sounds like you are experiencing. The only tire that will do anything in this condition is a true snow tire.
Question, in HDC going down a steep hill, isn't the entire system pretty much focused on braking?? If so, how is that or any mode any different than just braking and relying on the abs?
I agree that the HP's are downright scary, so bad that i bought new tires for my leased LR3 to avoid them.

In my experience, I've found that the HDC allows me to inch down a steep and/or icy hill at a rate slower than just using 1st gear and ABS.
I've done alright with the HPs probably due to the rear locker, though I've noticed some slippage in turns.HDC worked great again today and helped me avoid a 3 car pile-up at the bottom of a hill. Portland, OR got hit by the same snow/ice that got us here in Seattle. Here's a suv that found itself in a bit of trouble today in Portland, so NOT an LR3!
