1999 D2...I am looking to add the stock '04 cdl kit that EE sells, unless there is an easier/cheaper way to lock my diffs. But i first need to find out if my t-case is even lockable. Please give me some good detail. Can the dealer answer this question? Thanks in advance, chris

Your Center Diff is lockable... not the T-Case, but I understand....

cheaper way... I have heard of a cable set up, kind of like an old chock cable. You run it through the dash, and then down to the Center Diff and just weld a tab on the bolt. About $10 and not sure how much time...

Sorry to be so naive but what would be the purpose of locking the center Diff?

Moose,

Thanks for the link I thought it would be something along these lines. Unfortunately it has only raised more questions for me, hopefully someone can help me understand a little more.

I went to the EE site and looked up the CDL kit that they sell and can see why someone like myself would opt for the cable to the bolt that Joey mentions.

Also on there site I see a product "2004 Disco2 Center Differential Lock" which seems to accomplish what Joey was suggesting but at a greater cost. In there add for this they say that only the 2004 Disco2 came from the factory with a CDL shifter.

That said is it correct to assume that the shifter in my 2000 Disco2 only shifts me into a lower gear while the 2004 also locks the CD at the same time ?

Is the bolt that Joey mentioned currently connected to any control in my 2000 DS2 ? If not why is it there etc etc.

Thanks in advance.

Bump

I think this is correct to assume, so long as we are talking about the shift lever, and not the CDL itself. Your center diff may lock, but your lever will only move back and forth and not in an H pattern.

It is not connected to any control if you don't have a CDL lever that moves in an H-shaped pattern. It is there because LR decided in their limited wisdom that CDL was not something that people utilized (witness the number of complaints about frozen CDL levers), and so they removed the capability without changing the transfercase to a non-CDL version. Dollars over sense, it seems :albertein

I guess mine (2003 Disco SE-7) has the CLD installed but is missing the shifter? I presume they used one Diff and added a shifter only, or does the diff need to be replaced? This is still a little unclear and I can understand if "your vehicle may be different" statement applies. Guess I may have to as my dealer next time when it goes in for the 48,000 KM free service ... all fluids etc replaced ... yes!

99 D2 to early 01 D2 have the ******, but need the ability to engage.

Mid 01 - 03 would need a new Transfer case to make it lock.

04 came with the ability to lock it again.

Hope this helps
