Lighter Electrical Port

On my 96 Discovery, it seems that the lighter "port" is bigger then on other cars - that is to say, my cell phone charger doesnt fit in there. It just flops around. Is this normal? Maybe it's a british thing? (I've only had american cars in the past) Is there an adaptor available so I can charge my phone or use a radar detector, or am I going to have to wire up a custom port for these devices?

I noticed the same thing with my 98. Wrap some black tape around the plug and it will work

Supposedly there are adapters, but my suggestion is the same as RD98: Wrap a layer or two of electrical tape around the plug and it'll fit. The best thing to do is probably to get a 12v lighter outlet strip and then you can use the modified plug (with tape) more or less permanently with "standard" size outlets attached -- and you'll have more than one!

My Porsche is the same way, I used to use a small plastic adapter that fit over the plug and it would hold it great...I think I lost it though. Its loose but it barely ever falls out so I dont mess with it, eletrical tape sounds like a pretty good solution...
