Hey all. Well, I'm hoping to get some advice on my truck. I took it in two weeks ago to have the check engine light looked at. As you may have guessed, I need the O2 sensor replaced. We'll see if that fixes the light as it sounds like it may not based on other threads.
My question is, when i took it in for the O2 sensor I told them that I had 1 suspension fault. It flashed up on the info screen for one second then went away. It hasn't been back since and the suspension works fine. They want to replace the compressor and a couple of other things now. Should I let them? I'm a little concerned that they may cause more problems by replacing things when they don't need to be replaced. If the fault had happened more than once I'd be all over them to get it fixed but I'm not sure now. I guess I could thank them for being pro-active but I just don't want to start replacing things at random.
Any insight would be great.
thanks

"If it aint broken, don't fix it"...

I am very annal about dealers taking apart my car. Same theory as yours--afraid they might make things worse or loose. Besides, you can always take it back later if the problem arises again. Just my thoughts.

But go with what's most comfortable to you.

Well I think all Lr3s are a "little broke" some more than others. The problem hasn't suspension fault hasn't re-occured so I don't think it's very broken.
Thanks for the reply.

It's all just a matter of time...
Askewed... I know you feel that you've had unending problems with suspension faults, **** poor gas mileage etc etc and I can understand your cynicism, but the vast majority have not had those repeated problems nor will have. It seems you have either been plagued by incredibly bad luck or totaly inept service, why continue to insist that others will ??

just my 2 cents

You should let them replace the compressor. You want to be using the latest designed compressors Espeically since it is known that the original designs had problems. I think it's know on its 4th version.

JohnKel, I think I am half in askewed's camp, but perhaps not as jaded. I feel like there are in fact known problems that are so common that owners can almost expect them. ...suspension faults, check engine lights, transmission faults for those with the HD package...to name a few.

The place where I might have a different opinion than askewed is that I'm somewhat understanding and am a bit more tolerant and willing to work with LR to get them fixed...as long as they are doing their part, and so far they have.

Also, I don't think that the compressor should be replaced unless it needs to be replaced, which is to say that you've had a fault that is consistent with the compressor being bad. I had a bout with suspsension faults, too...but the suspension would still move up and down the entire time. It turned out to be a poorly-sealed control module, which had been shorted out by moisture. There is a TSB on this, actually...in the meantime, my dealer has informed me that the new part number on the compressor is because LR changed suppliers and not because there is anything wrong with the original design...but that's just what he said and that may not be true at all. One thing though, in my limited experience, the dealer won't perform warranty work unless Solihul is willing to pay for it, which they will only do if required...so if they are willing to replace the compressor, maybe that says something about the validity of what my dealer told me. ....in other words, maybe the original compressor design really is F'd up !!!

So, iwhound, I think this is a call you'll have to make for yourself. Either action can be justified, so you'll have to do whatever you feel most comfortable with.

My roof leaked today... a lot. So, if you're keeping score (which it oddly appears that you are) that would be my roof leaking two weeks after having the third compressor put in my second LR3. So if you don't mind, I'll be staying here on the cynical side of this conversation.

I thought of selling it back but they offered my 33k for my 55k LR3 with 8k miles on it. Seems they don't have much faith in it either...

You had the A-pillar leak, too? I forgot the TSB number... known issue for some. Hasn't happened to me... even though I have one of the earliest LR3s. Or is this a unique problem to you?

askewed, if you get another legal "lemon"... you'll get all of your $$$ back. Not just $33K.

I had the compressor replaced early on. Not a problem since. I was able to get the orginal compressor to act up when I went off-roading and needed to raise/lower the truck often. The old comprosser was worthless at that. It took forever to go up, down, then back up.

I have had zero problems with the truck in 5K miles except that compressor. Dealer replaced no problem. I have the V8 with the heavy duty package. I use my truck off road and often use the low range and locking rear. No problems so far.

I think if you buy a vehicle in its first year, and you buy one of the first vehicles in its first year, it is only logical to expect more problems than the average. In fact, if you read car mags, you will see that Acura, Toyota, and even Honda also has teething problems in the first year. I think at some point if you have a problem truck, or two, yes it is frusterating and I wouldn't wish it on anyone, but after awhile you can't just whine about it. Frankly if it causes you so much grief, sell it.
