1 : Unlikely a huge difference between "premium fuel" gasoline and diesel consumption to be correct, I think.
2 : 6.5 L (diesel) / 100 km = 36.18 US mpg = 43.45 Imp mpg ( 6.5 L = 1.717 US gallons = 1.429 imp gallons )

So you were already using U.S. gallons...I'd assumed Imperial simply because the figure was so high. All highway at moderate speed?

Diesel can do much better than gas, which is one reason it's so popular outside the U.S.

This was in trying economic driving in 5. or 6. gear: 50-60 mph (80-90 km / h) and around 1600-1700 rpm.

So essentially a best-case scenario. Still, quite impressive for an SUV.

I think we can similarly assume that the 13 MPG was achieved with more stops and likely also a heavier foot.

Any SUV or "off-roading" vehicle is a gas gusher. I saw this site (http://www.topspeed.com) that reviews cars and shows just how poor the gas mileage is... I still love this SUV no matter how slim my pocket gets when i drive it.
