That roof storage works quite well for me. It's in perfect length that I can open up sunroof and tailgate all the way without problem.
a) It's not hard to attach and dettach the box on the roof but you definately need extra hands. Not that the box is heavy but you can't put all of your strength due to awkward position when you install it.
b) loading and unloading is not a problem. You have to step on rear seat so I always take off my shoes when I load or unload, which is not a big deal.
There is a wider box in Thule brand (same length). I chose mine (narrower one) just because it looks cooler
