So I pulled out the MAF yesterday, and cleaned it good. There was lots of oily crap on the screen. When I took it out I noticed that there was no O ring, so I used some Loctite gasket maker and just put some on both ends and put it back together again, as the stealership wanted $16 for an O ring. I noticed a major improvement in the engines performance by doing this and cleaning the TPS and Idle sensor. My question is, should there have been an O ring in place? Will the Loctite cause any problems? Its the blue stuff that is silicone based and peels when dry. After I did it I thought maybe I should have just used some grease or oil to make a seal. Now, should I be hearing a little hissing noise from the airbox? I don't know if it was doing it before, or is it because now there is unrestricted airflow going into the engine?

Where did you make the 'O' ring for? the air box, between the air box and the MAF or the hows from the MAF to the acual intake?

both, and then realized that if any of that blue **** broke off between the maf and hose, then there would be no screen to stop it from going into the engine. since in only drove it two kilmometers today i cleaned it all off both sides when i got home. i just put grease for now and will order the O ring from the stealership in the morning. is there only one O ring that goes from the air box to the maf? man, when i was cleaning the loctite off i dropped maf on the floor of my garage. i really hope i didn't **** it up.

If I recall correctly there is only the 'O' ring between the air box and the MAF

Be careful with the grease too! It will also f-up your MAF. Quit being so cheap and just buy the right part before you end up spending alot of money on a new MAF!

Hey Mike in Japan...I wasn't being cheap...I was just trying to find a solution since there is no dealership where I live...was it cheap of you to build your own rock sliders, steering guard and tank guard?

Pietro,
Im sorry I guess it came off the wrong way! I wasnt being mean. I dont think it was cheap of me to build my own protection. I built them to my standards and durability. We are talking about a $16 O-ring here.

Again I apollogize for calling you cheap.
Be safe.
Peace,

Mike

no problemo man, its actually a six dollar part, and i needed a quick fix till i got one shipped as the nearest dealership is eighteen hours away. funny thing is i ordered one on friday, and when i cleaned out the old shop vac after cleaning the air box, i found the original o ring, so cleaned her up and slapped her back in. now i have a spare. that loctite **** is just that ****. what a pain it was to clean.
