Gents/Ladies,
2001 Disco w/140K + miles. The thing is pumping through coolant like its free and dumping it all over the driveway or wherever its running. I found a small leak seeping out the sides of the little block on the underside of the throttle housing and fixed that with some RTV. However, after about 3 mins of running after a start it doesn't appear the coolant is circulating. It gets pushed back into the expansion tank where it fills to the top and drains out the overflow tube:
Its a steady stream that doesn't quit even after the engine is shut off and after reaching operating temp, bubbles out the tank cap as if its overheating. It'll do this until it either cools or runs out of fluid. Guess what usually happens first...
I disconnected the hoses from the t-stat and found the interior of the t-stat housing with broken plastic parts inside. Not lose, but obvious parts of plastic had broken off and went somewhere. The broken plastic is on the top side of the thermostat inside the housing.
Where would this broken plastic go? Based on the flow chart in the rave manual it appears it would head towards the coolant pump, yes? If it did, could the pieces continue through the pump and through the whole system? Looking for help diagnosing what seems to me on the surface to be a blockage somewhere but that's a guess. Frustrated having to constantly add water/coolant before each trip.
