Just got back from a 3d/2n trip from Mojave Road. It was incredible fun and the desert is a beautiful place to be in February. My wife and I camped in the car while my buddies pitched tents...another reason why the LR is such an awesome vehicle. I am 5'10 and sleeps perfectly in the back with all seats folded.

We met with my buddies at a desert outpost on Lanfair Road and from there we set our tires onto the Mojave Road and immediately encountered joshua tree jungles

one of the roads we had to descend...it was fairly tough but the LR absorbed it with ease.

After some fun stuff along the way, we found a gorgeous spot to spend our first night. Apparently our campsite was also an abandoned mine and now we cue spooky night cap stories :)

Great photos! Thanks for sharing, it is indeed a beautiful and very scenic trail. I went last year with our local Land Rover club (SCLR) and we are going again in early April this year. We usually meet by Avi Casino in Laughlin, NV, early on a Saturday morning and pop back onto the freeway near Barstow / Baker on Sunday or Monday afternoon, depending on schedule. I am taking my new LR4 this year, it'll be her "baptism" in the dirt... Couldn't think of a better place.

Last year it was freezing (and I mean freezing - there was a thick sheet of ice over my tent when I woke up in the morning) at night, even at the low desert camps, and the one at higher altitude we wanted to spend our first night in was snowed in and inaccessible!

Your photos put me in the mood already, can't wait to go.

Dinner followed by watching fire into the cooooold night, we continued on Mojave Road and visited an abandoned ranch. Nothing special about the ruins other than tons and tons of rusted cans. Some of the rusty cans are stamped with "Product of Norway" mark...tuna fish or anchovies?

At mile 73 of the road, we see the Mailbox filled with emergency supplies and a guest log. Right behind it, there is the Frog Monument and fortunately, one of us did remember to bring our contribution. We are now blessed by the Frog Gods :)

Lots of interesting side trips along side Mojave Road and the Lava Tube trail is definitely worth a visit. It's a quick 0.3mile hike up and down into the tube where hardened lava rocks form a pretty impressive atmosphere in the tube and the "god light" spotlight from above makes for cool pictures

We should have a NORCAL/SOCAL forum trip during the late summer after it cools down
