I just don't get it. Why LR4? As far as the changes to the truck itself, some will like them and some won't (Personally I don't like them). But the name change is just idiotic.

Looks like the birthchild from the LR3 and RR Sport.......Interior looks good but why did they decide to put the steering wheel on the right side?:stupid:......jk

There are more high res pictures now on the autoblog site with close ups of lots of the interior features.

The reposition of the TR knob looked good to me at first, but I don't like it after the close up. The ride height switch used to be a nice easy tab. Now it is buried and harder to get to. I agree that the cup holders should have stayed forward, and the TR knob should have stayed back.

I do still like the steering wheel and dash display. And the digital readouts are nice - like the ones in the center of the temperature knobs and the duplicate digital speed readout.

The extra wood on the door panels is nice. But the wood in the center console should have been on the sides like the Range Rover (and like my LR3 with the lux package). The sides of the center console look strange this way.

The rear looks too monochrome now as well, with even the license plate light/hatch opener painted to match the body. Looks like after market color matching gone too far.

The updates to the TR system sound interesting. I'll be interested to see if I can tell the difference. Sounds like they made it even smoother in rock crawl mode and sand mode.

I too am a bit worried though about the larger brakes. I wonder if it will take 18" wheels any more. The supercharged RRS with the larger Brembos couldn't for the longest time, and even now there is only one very expensive option for 18's that will fit over those things.

It looks like the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee might give the LR4 a little run for its money. It seems to have the Jeep version of Terrain Response, Air Suspension and Locking Diffs... I guess it was only a matter of time. It would be interesting to see how they compare head to head off road.

WOW someone for chrysler had been in a Rover. That should be against copyright or somthing. Why don't they just buy a Rover put a litttle different sheet metel on it and swap the badge. Chrysler is like a korean company now, they just copy other peoples ideas? Shame on them.

man...dont know what to say

they ...'d the front grill, i liked the original no-nonsense, minimalist lines in the grille (a land rover classic attribute)....but i do like to bottom skirt as long as it doesn't compromise the approach angle.

I really hope they offer the black trim atleast as an option which is good protection against door opening dings etc and cheaper to replace.

Too much color-coding going on in the tailgate area, imho. also, not sure, from design perspective, what to make of the dividing line between the body color and the bottom black plastic area of the bumper (specially looking from the side of the vehicle, it just doesn't work in terms of design lines, i like the original full black bumper)

interior, well, i dont know. its good but i am not diggin the relocation of the TR knob, also I really like the current suspension and High/Low range switches which have the chunky feel to them. Looks like the top grey piece on the dash is now two pieces (one large piece and the other over the gauges area (more pieces = more rattles and less carved-out-of-stone feel)

still like the 2008 HSE wheels design as far as 19" is concern. new look doesnt go well with the clean geometric and minimalist body design.

but what do i know

maybe it will grow on me, once i see it in real life, ha

To be fair, that's basically how the Rover was "invented" - they took an old WWII Jeep and modded it. So we Rover guys can't really bash Jeeps too much. Without them, we wouldn't have our Rovers...

That is a real head scratcher. The article makes it sound like this is the replacement for the LR3. So, why not just call it the 2010 LR3?
"Land Rover has released all the details on its new 2010 LR4. The new LR4 (the SUV formerly-known-as LR3)..."

So looks like the main focus is the brand new engine.
What is the thought on buying an engine its first year out? It is always nice to have an engine that is already proven for reliability in another platform.

What does "naturally aspirated" mean?

I REALLY like this new terrain response feature...and wish there was some way to offer it on LR3s. Seems like a software upgrade as long as you could figure out what button to use...
"For soft sand – one of the most power-hungry surfaces – 'sand launch control' has now been introduced, which makes for noticeably easier drive-away. New, speed-dependent wheel-slip targets for the traction control system permit only very limited wheel-slip, helping to prevent the wheels digging down into the sand."

Now, if they would just offer a non-fancy version of the vehicle. :) So we get all the great functionality, but without all the fancy parts to keep shiny and scratch free. LOL Seriously, they offered one of these vehicles in a matte finish...I'd buy it!
