I have a 2002 disco II with 89,000 miles on it. Overflow tank spit all coolant and it overheated and stopped running. I thought it might possibly be a head gasket, as its always had a slight coolant smell, but the local independent shop pressure tested the unit and it held. The only thought was the thermostat, which we replaced. Ran/ idled it with the ac on, and had no problem, except a cylinder six misfire code came on 2 days later- it was reset, came on again, and then disappeared on its own. I drove it around town for 45 mins and couldn't get the code, or temp to spike. Yesterday (about 4 days after light shut off), temp gauge spikes, so my son pulled into a parking lot to shut it off, & its dumping coolant and hissing. I check on it a few hours later, and it starts right up and seems fine. Any suggestions? I can't afford to just keep guessing and throwing parts at it hoping it goes away. Is it possible to have a head gasket issue and have it hold pressure in a pressure test? There didn't appear to be any coolant in the oil when we checked. Thank you

There are a ton of reasons for this issue. Bad coolant cap, head gaskets, bad viscus clutch on the fan, your electric fan isn't working, you haven't bled it properly or your radiator is plugged up.
If you want some help with this, send me your number and I'll walk you thru what/how to check it.

are the electric fans running? and depending on how hot it has gotten it could be a slipped liner.
