Land Rover Denver south just told me that they do not put synthetic oil in the LR3 unless requested by the owner. I know this has probably been covered, but I was under the impression that castrol 5w-30 synthetic was the standard oil used?

I had the engine oil changed at around 1000 miles on my new V8 SE from the LR delearship and they put in Mobil 1 synthetic, however since it was not "scheduled" maintanence they charged me almost 130 bucks for it. I remember the service rep. saying that if it ws a scheduled maintainence they would have still put in the same oil and not charged me anything for it.davez26 said:They are correct. Factory Fill is Castrol GTX. (not a synthetic). If a client requests a synthetic, that is usually not a problem. If a factory scheduled servcie is being done, we charge the difference between the two to the customer.
This is the normal recommend oil change interval for many vehicles. But you also have to remember they are in the business of getting you to buy newer vehicles, most oils will not survive to 7500 unless it is all highway miles. Even then I wouldn't go much over 5000 miles. I normally run 5000 miles on my 1992 Buick Roadmaster, but I have put 5000 miles on in less than a month in most cases. When it goes more than 3 months I tend to change the oil sooner.new06 said:thanks. I guess I was suprised because the change interval is 7500 miles which I thought was unheard of for a standard oil.
