I'm trying to install some wiring to get more current back to the rear cargo area, to be able to more quickly charge an Ecoflow battery. They gave me about 26' of positive and negative lead that's about 3/8" diameter to go from the battery back to there.

I'm wondering if anyone has done something like this and can make a recommendation for good ways to route wire like that and get it back up into the cargo area, preferably on the passenger side, avoiding heat and possible rock damage, etc.?

Thanks!

Dear @greiswig,

Have you checked out @drivesafe (Tim at Traxide in Australia)?

Sounds like you are looking for something like "DT90-FPC Full Power Cable Kit" [traxide.com.au/product/dt90-fpc-full-power-cable-kit/]

I have actually had this kit for years now and am hoping to get it installed this summer after I get done with the massive fluids, engine, suspension, and brakes/wheels services presently ongoing.

Hi greiswig, from your post I am guessing you want to run the cabling down the chassis and up into the cargo area.

If this is the case, then it is a No-No for LR3 and LR4s because these vehicles, and the RRS of the same models, get what is called a Body-Off operation done when the motor or turbos need to be worked on.

This Body-Off operation will rip that cabling out and in many cases, can damage paneling in the rear cargo area if cabling has been run back up into the rear cargo area.

While it will take long to run, it is quite easy to run new heavy duty cabling through the cab of any LR3 or LR4.

The cabling is run down the driver's side, under the door sills, into the rear cargo area.

Also note, you only need to run a Positive (+) cable to the rear as there are a number of earth points in the rear cargo area which can safely carry very high return currents.

Here is a link to a SILENT video that will show you how to run the cab inside the cab.

There's a little rubber grommet underneath the brake booster, it's near the 11:39 minute mark of the video. That's THE best way to do it. There's also another route that's not recommended, but I needed 2x 4 awg wires routed to the rear. One was routed under the brake booster as recommended, and the other was routed through a sealed plastic grommet behind the driver's vent. You'll need to carefully drill through it. Again, not recommended, but I've done it without any issues.

Hi DJ, there is another rubber grommet at the bottom of the firewall on the driver's side.

You need to pull the carpet out behind the accelerator pedal to get at it but it will allow thick cabling to be pulled through this hole.
