I guess I could have put these pics in the "Show Off Your LR4" thread. But, as someone pointed out the last time I posted photos, mine tend to show more of the surroundings than the truck. And, heck, my truck isn't nearly as interesting as what some of the rest of you have!

That said, we did get a nice taste of the kinds of driving we'll be able to do in Colorado in the years ahead and I want to encourage all of you to come on over.

And, BTW, we haven't even done the challenging/scary stuff like some of the folks on this forum have done.

Having been very lucky to visit Colorado a few years ago and driving over some of those mountains and passes in the Telluride / Ouray area, I can only confirm those photos are unretouched... Things really do look that way there. Even the best photos don't do Colorado justice, it is that beautiful up there.

Looks like California pass. Wife and I were married many years ago in that area.

Yes, it was California Pass and Hurricane Pass (pictured with my wife standing by the sign). We had driven to Animas Forks after lunch in Silverton. Too late to do the Alpine Loop so we returned to Ouray via California Pass, Hurricane Pass and Corkscrew Gulch.

I think the building in #4 was along that route but to be honest, we saw so many old mines I can't remember for certain.

We also spent a half day driving around the Red Mountain Mining district near Ouray. There are plenty of old mines there as well. Here is a picture of the Yankee Girl mine. The mountains there really are red. And also here is a photo from along that route with an old Discovery that was parked at the pass.

I threw in another picture from the top of one of the passes looking down on at the lake. The road goes down that way. Then we turned left towards Corkscrew Gulch. There is a turn to the right to Poughkeepsie Gulch and Engineer's Pass - s bit more difficult than we wanted to try on our own.

And just so everyone knows, they do have an outhouse at the top of the pass.

BTW, I think next year's national gathering put on by the Solihull club (Colorado Land Rovers club) will be in this area. Probably in September.
