Getting ready for a road trip to Utah and Yellowstone and whipped this together in the rain on Friday. I'll put a funnel, rag, gloves, etc in there too. Thinking I'll bolt it down into the carrier.
If I make another one. I'd use McMaster 1590a52 for latches and some fiber reinforced rubber for the hinges.

@callin : Thanks - It is the LR4 "Protection Bar." VPLAP0022.
I noted a few still for sale on eBay if you are interested although I doubt these are still manufactured or available from the dealer (who knows).
They don't really protect much...see a photo from 2011 where I got side swiped just a hair and the dude in front of me just tore off the bar with a tubular steel bumper (on a Toyota Forerunner / Hilux).

Road trip begins tomorrow from Longfellow's Wayside Inn to SLC Airport with stops at the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Neeley Distillery in KY, ***** Leagues Baseball Museum and Kauffman Stadium in KC, and Coors Field.
With the auxiliary tank I'll be able to easily go over 700 miles between fill ups.
Wife is meeting me in Salt Lake. We're going to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and Jackson. When we're done, the LR is being left at SLC and my parents are going to do the Utah national parks and drive back east as far as they feel like.

I got my LR4 back a couple of days ago. 8199 miles at 16.1mpg from Massachusetts to Utah to all around and back.
Things that went wrong
- Aux fuel tank fuse holder fell apart. Easy enough to fix.
- Driver's window clip broke.
- P026A "charge air cooler efficiency below threshold.". This happened a few times on the highway during climbs. Not really sure if anything can be done about that besides slow down.
In total it burned/ leaked a bit under a quart of oil on the trip. Lost about 8 oz of coolant to the ether as well. Remanufactured motor has got 13k miles on it now.
10/10 would do it all again.

DTC P026A / Intercooler outlet temp / Aux pump / Velocity AP
2016 with Velocity AP Stage 2 (ECU + pulley). I was driving back from the Tetons yesterday and encountered a little power loss while driving over some passes / long hills at ~ 90F ambient (and 6000-7000 feet elevation). No CEL. Plugged in the IID tool and had code P026A (Charge Cooler...

Might help out with the charge cooler code. Seems like the symptoms are pretty similar.
