Slight hesitation, doesn't pull as hard - plugs?

Went up north, put some 2,000 miles on the rover and hit the 60k mark. It's starting to hesitate for some reason, it used to just pull hard all the way through the band and now it's kind of dogin'. Anyway, I guess I'll try plugs 1st it has the Champion plugs in it now - and I'm wondering what's best (w/ part number) to replace these with on a stock wire setup

99 Disco II
4.0 V8

Could this be VSS? TPS? I haven't really tried to kick it down into 3rd when I'm @ 50 or so, seems to dog me in that range too - but its just not pulling as hard all the way around.

Replace with Bosch Platinum +4 plugs, Magnecore plug wires - the blue 8MM ones - I think Rover Connection usually has the wires on sale (about 80 bucks) - if you can't find them, let me know, I will search for you. Replace air filter with a K&N air filter. Use a can of B&G 44K - it is the best fuel injestor cleaner on the market, might be tough to find, a little expensive, I am going to buy some next week, will let you know how much it cost. If you can't find it, I will ship it to you - you just pay for it and the shipping. You might have some carbon build up.
What octane of fuel are you using? The lower octane will cause carbon buildup on most, but not all, rovers.
Next, it might be time to replace the O2 sensors. They don't throw a code until they are almost gone or sometimes not until they are all the way gone. Do a careful search for them b/c you can find them cheaper than 159 bucks like AB sells them for.
Hope this helps!

Stepper motor a/k/a IAC? Do a search and see if cleaning it helps.

Is the air filter clean? Sometimes it's simple things...

Air filter is a brand new K$N, I use only Premium fuel + had the LR fuel injector fluid done recently. I'll check on how clean the Idle Air Valve (IAC) looks today.... Wish i had the dough for the magnacores + bosch plat plus 4's - but honestly I don't feel too hot about doing the wires right now on the rover. They are fairly new looking to me I think they are less than a yr old and It's just that the plugs are under the friggin' intake manifold - is it easier to take that off first I've found that my hands don't fit back there, at all.

I was thinking an o2 sensor may have gone, that sucks that they don't throw a code until they are toast - guess I'll give it a good go over today. May try SeaFoam l8r instead of the 44k, or both. Also, tried the IAC - it was clean. One thing I was thinking (as I was looking for the O2 sensor) was that my truck was leaning in to the mud last time I took it 4x4in' on the drivers side where that o2 sensor must have been under water. Not good eh?
;p

also, do I really want bosch plat. plus 4's w/ a stock wire setup? I hear they run better @ higher voltage (i.e magnacore wires).

If you have a new air filter, and all the reas that you have mentioned, this just sounds like possible plugs going bad.

Pull the plugs and check the gap. If it is way off, they need replaced. Wire might be the issue, but if they are a year or so old, I doubt it.... VSS will accually feel like the vehicle is stalling when running, not just losing power (more like someone turns off the key for a second or so)

I Stepper motor is more for Idle and normall doesn't effect higher RPM's.

O2 sensors will normally start showing up as bad fuel ecomony (I know what's fuel economy, but trust me you will notice)

I would have suggested a fuel filter, but since it is a D2, sorry but you don't really have one.

Thanks for the advice, I'll check the plugs out this week and have the codes scanned to see if maybe the o2 is sending off a code. Glad I can rule the VSS out, it's def. not doing that - just feels like not enough power through the band when I step on the gas now. Most likely plugs / wires... we'll see for sure and I'll post.

Thanks again for all of the help guys, you are the best forum for LR's around!

I agree with Joey. A plug change is due, and, no you don't need to fit platinums.

So anyone know what plugs are best for a stock wire setup. Champions? (what's in there now) Bosch? Who's got part #'s, my autoparts guy says they are for late model + early model for the plus 4's????? I'm just wondering what's best to run on this 4.0 I guess I may wait for the Bosch plus 4 plugs + buy the magnacores if that's the best way to go. Just don't know which part #to buy

Autozone (i.e. Crapzone) should be able to easily tell you what plugs you need if you go the +4s. I run a 96 D1. The guy who told me to use the +4s along with the magnecore wires is a former underwriter for Land Rover. He has given me tons of advice and has never been wrong yet. Because of him, my rover has never been to a shop. I have done everything myself, aside from some welding.
Yes, it might be wiser to wait to get the +4s until you can get the magnecore wires. But when you do, you will not regret it.

Thanks. I'll try them instead, the Pep Boys guys pretty much scratched their heads when the spark plug choices came back in abundance
