Hi guys, my disco slips or rolls after it is placed in park. Its a 98 Discovery with 101,000 miles. No other issues or sounds coming from the transmission. Is there a way to adjusted the parking pawl mechanism?
There is a pin the size of a #2 pencil that holds the vehical in park. Unfortunatly it is inside the trany. That also means if it is broke or sheered off it is also rolling around in your tranny. I would have it looked at by a tranny pro.
Thanks guys, I was worried that would be the answer. I can get to the park system by removeing the transfer case and the then the back section of the transmission. I really did not want to do this, guess I will just start using the parking brake!
Jay
Just a good reminder to all. Always use your parking brake. The pin that hold you 3000+ pound vehical in park and to stop it from rolling is only the size of a #2 pencil. Even if you are on a flat surface. It doesn't take much for it to start rolling.
