Snow / tire chains for LR3

Unfortunately, I need to carry tire chains due to certain laws and restrictions in areas I travel for photography. I was shocked by two things:

1) Land Rover chains at dealer are $900 (I also found them for around $700)
2) The manual says put them on the front tires! The clearance between the tire and suspension parts is only about .5 inches.

Is the manual wrong? Did I miss something? I have already tried two different sets of chains: 1) Cable chains from tirechain.com and 2) RUD Grip (size/part no 141) from Rud Chains.

Can someone who has fitted chains on a LR3 recommend aftermarket tire / snow chains that actually fit and work on an 06 LR3 with the standard 255 60 R18 tires?

I'm not ready to seperate myself from $900 for chains.

Do a search for snow chains. There have been a few threads lately with a lot of good information. There are plenty of solutions well below $900. I picked up a set of Go Claws (www.flextrax.com) for about $100. I haven't needed them yet, but I did do a trial fitting and they seem just fine.

I have the 05 LR3 HSE with 19 inch tires and the Rud Grip Chains fit perfectly and worked perfectly. Go to second page of this forum to find this discussion.

........Yes, I ran them on the front tires. Yes I was saw the clearance between the chain and A-arm. Comfortable...yes! From my point of view, the clearance could be 1 milimeter and that would be enough if nothing touches or rubs. If those chains break or come loose then there going to damage something not matter what the clearance is. This is an assumption, but the Land Rover chains would have to follow the same design of the Rud chains. I mean the way the Rud chains are designed and how they fit on the inside of the tires, I really don't see how you could find a better fitting limited clearance chain. Given that Land Rover outsourced the chain specs to an outside vendor it would not surprise me if Rud makes Land Rover chains. By the way Rud is a German company. Go to their european or USA web pages...."Leading the World in Chain Technology". I will place a bet they make the Land Rover chains.
