I started this thread several days ago in the regional section, with no replies so I am going to post it here so maybe people will actually see and respond to it...Spring is quickly approaching and I have found no better time to head out to the deserts surrounding Southern CA. I have somewhat explored the Anza Borrego and tooled around a little in Joshua Tree. Does anyone have any favorite destinations they would care to share, and secondly is anyone interested in heading out some weekend in the fairly near future?

Pics look great. I would def love to get out there on those trails. Where is that, how do you get there and is a solitary LR3 recommended. (day trip me and the wife...) Also, where else can I go to get my truck dirty!?!?!?

here is a link to the state park website and it says the wildflowers are set to bloom the end of this month and early into next month. The pictures were taken last year at anza borrego, and when I was there the wild flowers and weather was great). We had lots of snow in the surrounding mountains and partly cloudy with highs in the low to mid 70's. I'm not sure where you are coming from, but if your in LA or san Diego, you could make it a day trip. and there are some tougher trails with rocks, but most of it is sandy almost like fire road conditions.

I highly recommend going out with LRCSD or SCLR to those areas. I am helping LRCSD do a run to Red Rock State Park at the end of April, and SCLR is heading to Anza very soon (like, this weekend maybe?).

Another great desert flower trail is Mojave Trail. I have never been at peak season, but I love that trail for its many varied beauties. Here are two photo galleries for you to peruse (I reccommend SlideShow mode and 15 minutes to spare)

One thing I really love about this time of year (besides the great temperatures), is the beauty of the snow capped mountains. To rare a site here in SoCal, but so fantastic when we have it!
