1995 LandRover Discovery V8I.

Have a starting problem. Engine turns/cranks and acts like it wants to start, but sometimes doesn't. Sometimes it starts right up and sometimes it just doesn't. There's no rhyme or reason--hot or cold; morning or night--never any consistency to why it won't start.

Have owned the car for a little over 2 years and tech said that sometimes you have to just hold down on the gas to blow out the plugs.....well this works sometimes and sometimes not. Recently replaced starter because it burned up and the starting problem has persisted.

I've read a lot of these forums on this problem.....should I start with the fuel pump? This one is probably about 2 years old. Plugs are about same. So many repairs, though, that I lose track. Have noticed that it started once when we jiggled the plug wires.......

Help???

Could be any of those things.

Could also be a leaky injector (essentially flooding the engine while it sits), a clogged fuel filter, a fuel pump, plug wires, plugs, ummmmm....lessee, some crazy electrical gremlin no one's ever heard of before....

I'd start with the fuel pump, and check fuel pressure at the rails next.

Thanks. Trying to avoid $$$ for diagnostics. Sounds, though, like others have heard of this......anyone out there have any ideas that a non-mechanic can try at home?

If you plug wires are old... change them first.

I have the same problem on my 96' Disco. The starter will turn, turn, turn. Usually I have to turn the engine totally off and then turn it over again and usually it starts right up. I have had the fuel pump replaced, plugs and wires replaced as well. I just live with it. Unless anyone can give me any insight.

Check the fuel pressure, could still be a fuel issue... filter or even the fuel regulator
