Well I have a Disco 1 that I just bought not to long ago, and I'm trying to fix the diff lock. I have pulled the dash apart, drilled out the rivets for the boot, and have PB Blaster'd the hell out of every thing down there! I can freely move from forward to backward (HI and LOW) but the shifter wont move side to side (LOCKED DIFF). I have tried to manually move the diff. detent arm and it moves freely with a crow bar, but only about an inch or so, but I do here a click! So here are my questions: How far does that detent arm need to move? Which direction does i move for locked and unlocked (driver side or pass side)? When I try to move the shifter to move that large thick rod that is used to move the detent arm side to side it doesnt move at all? When I manually moved the detent arm I forgot which is locked and unlocked....dont want to drive it until I know!!!!
HELP PLEASE

P.S. I dont have the light for my diff lock at all....I think the sensor is disconnected!

When I did mine, I locked onto it with a pair of vice grips... moved the rod fore and aft while spraying it down with pbblaster and prying it left and right...

It took about an hour of hard work to get mine happy.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! Where abouts did you put the vise grips....on the shifter or the rod that moves the diff lock? I'll keep trying to get this to move.

Ok..... so no matter what I do to the thick arm that moves the detent arm for the diffs, i just wont budge!!! If I move the detent arm over manually and have one tire jacked up I can spin it no matter the position of the detent arm..... so should I beilive that my lockers dont work? Also how big of a pain in the rear is it to remove all of that shifter (HI, Low, locked) and lube it up? HELPPPPP!

Remember you still have open diffs front and rear, the CDL just locks the front and rear together, it still has open diffs at both ends, so one tire can still spin.
