Doesn't the LR system disable power to 'non essential' items when the battery volts are low?

I seem to remember seeing this somewhere - sort of an automatic power saving system that cuts in until the car has been going for a while, and the alternator has put some charge into the battery.

That might explain the stereo issue - if your battery was on the way out - or not charging correctly.
