Sunroof Seal

Has anyone come across the issue of a perished seal in the sunroof. My local garage has put this down to damage by birds but without inspecting the entire seal under the roof.
Would appreciate if anyone has an opinion as the car is only 2 yrs old and should not be in this state.

Something is really enjoying the taste of rubber. I have never seen this happen to a 2 year old vehicle that I recall at least.

or someone has tried to break in via the sunroof.
