Am looking for some opinions on a couple things. I have read a lot about LR3 tire wear but nothing about tire pressure monitors. Has anyone put a system on their truck or are you just as well off using a digital gauge every time you gas up?

Also, there is some pretty convincing data about the usefulness of daytime running lights in northern Europe and it is a standard configuration for LR3s in Canada. Has anyone in the U.S. had the dealer activate them?

I'm not sure about the other models, but my HSE has tire pressure monitors - even on the spare. However, IMO, this does not replace using a gauge at least once a month. The TPM will only alert you if pressure is to too low to be safe, not necessarly when it's too low to cause premature tire wear.

Airboss, what year is your HSE? My HSE does not have the pressure monitor I don't think. I was offroad once with a group and it wasn't until someone told me my back tire was low (it was ruptured in fact) that I knew it needed replaced.

NHTSA made TPMS mandatory for light vehicles in US as of MY07.

Some literature (owners manual?) for MY05 did reference TPMS for LR3, although it wasn't yet offered.

NHTSA requires the use of direct pressure monitoring. Some new vehicles will display the psi for each tire (and spare).

This new regulation can become important if you swap out rims/tires. You would then need to also purchase the TPMS monitors/transmitters for each new rim.

And origin here: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/rulings/TPMS-FMVSS-No138-2005/executive_summary.html

Houm, mine is a '06. I know that my TPMs work because I was driving through Montana last month and I got a "Spare Tire Pressure Is Low" warning on the info display. I stopped at a gas station, lowered the tire, and found it was down to 28psi. All in all, I was pretty impressed. I mean, how often does one check their spare tire pressure? Usually not until it's too late.

JackMac, Isn't it just like NHTSA to make TPMS mandatory for light vehicles but not make a law that all gas stations provide free air for motorists? All EU countries do this! I wonder how many more people would check their tires regularly if free air was available at every gas station?

Yes, I've had my daytime-driving-lights activated by the dealer. It is a simple flip of a "switch". Anytime my LR3 is any gear except 'Park' all the lights come on (front/tail), but the interior lights do not.

I love having my lights on as it has been proven to reduce accidents and other drivers see you coming and get out of your way!

TPMS,
I have an 06 SE apparently with a simple version of TPMS. I did not know I even had it. A light on my dash lit so i looked on my info center and it just had an i. so i assumed the little picture on my dash was a tire and checked pressures. My left rear was a couple lbs low. When i filled it, the light went off. I am glad I have that instead of the annoying ones that ive seen in other vehicles. I guess it just alerts you when its when its critically low.
