Hi All,
About to put a new set of tires on my 2006 LR3, and have garnered some great advice from the forums on what rubber to go with. But it seems that a slightly larger tire would be a straight fit on my stock 18" rims, and I'm wondering if anyone has gone up a size with any beneficial or detrimental results to ride or handling?
More specifically, I am planning to put on a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers. Stock size replacements would be 255/60 R18, but I'm tempted to go for the 285/60 R18 for a beefier look.
99% of my driving is dry weather (Los Angeles) and on-road (lots of potholes though), only the occasional foray off road for camping. So to be honest about it, a decision to go with bigger tires would be driven by aesthetic considerations - I like the look and feel there's visually a bit too much "air" under my current LR3 fenders. I don't, however, like the bigger wheels / smaller aspect ratio look, so prefer to fill things out with stock rims wearing a little more rubber.
My understanding is that there's only about 1.5 inch increased diameter overall to this solution, so it should not materially impact clearance in the wheel wells.
Any experience or advice on such an "upsize" would be appreciated, thanks!
Best,
Joel
