I have a 95 Disco I with 160k in need of a tune up. I was wondering what is recommended for wires, plugs, cap and rotor. I have noticed quite a price difference between original parts and after markets and am looking for honest opinions. The rig is my daily driver and I am looking to get as much life out of it as possible. Thanks for the help

Wires - My preference is Magnacore, but this is a preference
Plugs - stick with Champions (the cheap ones) like $1 each type
Cap and Rotor try to find OEM buy from rovers north or atlantic british

Don't forget to clean the intake and the butterfly as well as the MAF sensor.

Can you explain what you mean by your last sentence. Sorry you are dealing with a bit of a greenhorn.

Intake is from the air filter box to the intake manifold. Clean the box out, change the air filter, clean the Mass Air Flow Sensor (with MAF cleaner only), then remove the air intake tube (you can clean this as well as long as you let it dry when your done). Then you will see the butterfly in the intake it will be nasty black... clean with throttle body cleaner.

Thanks man. I don't think the MAF or the butterfly have ever been cleaned, at least not in the last 85k+. Thanks for the help.

Sorry forgot to ask, is cleaning the MAF pretty straight forward and self explanatory?

Remove the MAF, spray entire can of MAF cleaner into MAF. Do not touch the internals with anything other than the Spray, let dry Reinstall.

Hey Joey;

What is with the Champions - I mean I am ready to give them a try but are you running them with your Gold 91 chip? I am constantly looking for the best spark for my Disco and if you have a compelling argument for the Champs (which ones by the way?) - they will be my next spark plug.

I have found that every Land Rover mechanic that I have talked to or had a beer with :biggrin: all agree that 3.9 and 4.0 engines all run best on just plain cheap Champion plugs. I change mine every 2 years no matter how many miles I drive, and it runs great. No issues. When I bought mine someone had put in Platinums of some sort, and it was running like crap. Changed the plugs to Champions and got instant results.

The 4.6 or newer D2 4.0 and the 98 - 02 RR will need Champion Platinum.

The LR mech's that I have talked with also state that if a LR comes in running rough 6 times out of 10 it is the plugs.
