Hey Everyone,

I ordered a 2013 LR4 today. I ended up going with a Fuji White HSE Lux, Arabica interior, Heavy Duty Package, and Black Design package (19" wheels).

My sales guy is going to call me next week with a general timeline, but he did tell me they are filling orders pretty quickly right now.

Thanks,
Yes, I will trading in my 2011 LR4 HSE. Well, I was planning to go with a 2014 or 2015 model, but since there is talk that Land Rover will likely replace the 5.0 V8 with a 3.0 Supercharged V6, I wanted to go with the 2013 to make sure I got the V8 engine.

My 2011 HSE is great, no issues at all.

Dude, that's awesome. How did you do on price?
I think I did pretty well. My build price came to $61,570 and I told Eric I really wanted to get a few thousand below $60,000. He spoke to the General Manager and because I am a repeat customer, they said the maximum price would be $58,500, so I was happy with that as a maximum and went ahead and gave him $1,000 to begin the order. He told me they would see if they could go a little lower as we get closer to delivery. So, the price is not yet set in stone, but I know I am getting the range I wanted.

In addition, he said about a month before delivery they would have me come in and see if they can transfer two (2) of my accessories to the new LR4. I told him I wanted them to transfer my: 1) front skid/sump plate, and 2) side steps/rock sliders to the new LR4. I told him they could use the front body plate and side moldings from the new LR4 (when it comes in) on my current/soon-to-be old LR4. I would really like to try to salvage these two modifications. Lastly, and I know they can do this, is I want them to switch out the tires at delivery. I want him to put the new stock tires on my outgoing LR4 and my current Cooper Zeon LTZs on the new LR4. I don't see why they would reject that, as they get brand new tires out of the deal!

I am leaving my Voyager half-rack, ladder, and head light / tail light guards, as well as my custom black design pack features (black grill, black side vents, black lettering, and black wheels).

I plan to get a new full-size off-road rack for the new LR4, ladder, and head light / tail light guards. I would imagine my truck will sell very quickly as a certified pre-owned LR4.

He is going to call me next week with a timeline and then regular updates, but he said they are building orders pretty fast right now.

When do you plan to order your 2013?

That seems to be a pretty fair price. I'm going to wait until next week to decide. This may sound nuts but I may go for the new RRS. But I need to see it in full and find out what US pricing is. If it doesn't fit then I may explore the LCI '14 Mercedes e350 4Matic Sport wagon. I kinda fell in love with it and it feels like a more responsible car for the family since we're entering a new stage. We'd like to take more road trips since my Son's getting older and the Benz would make for an amazing highway cruiser. I LOVE my LR4, but when I drove up to Canada last summer it was a little taxing on the mountain over passes due to weight and handling. Felt safe but had to be really, really careful and at times it got very stressful. My Son is #1 now. :) So something more road stable is in the cards... hence my consideration for the new RRS. But if it's priced at 70K for a non-lux, then I won't spring for it. But in all likelihood, I will get '13 LR4. And rent something for the long road trips. We'll see.

That is understandable. The LR4 does have a tendency to get tiring to drive, especially for long periods around twists and turns. I actually had an E350 4Matic a few years ago and loved it - drove pretty nicely. I like them much better than the BMW 5-series wagon or Audi wagons - though the new All Road is kind of nice.

Have you ever driven a RRS? I will tell you they are definitely a lot more nimble than the LR4 as far as cornering and handling. I drove one for 2 days and loved the ride (it was supercharged), power, and handling. There is a big difference between the LR4 and the RRS - and I would imagine the 2014 model will be even better. Though, have you thought about a 2013 model? They seem to have a lot of left overs and I am sure you could get a sweet deal. If I were going with the RRS, I'd get a 2013 because I just don't like the new design.

I can't wait for the NY auto show!!!

Keep us posted.

Count Laszio, before you buy that E350 wagon, can I interest you in a 4.2 allroad? (Just kidding) I also ordered a 2013 this week before the V8 is extinct. Red HSE Lux with black interior, sat radio & heavy duty package. Also got $3k off total price and delivery is early June or sooner. Now my dilemma is do I get rid of the LR3 or allroad. Probably going to keep the LR3 since it has been so reliable and with 2 kids and a big dog it works well for our family. Plus I can use the LR3 for long trips and keep the mileage down on the new LR4. And there is a strong market for my A6 based allroad since the new allroad is just an A4 avant wearing plastic fender flares.

Hey Paul,

I wondered about the new platform for the Audi Allroad. It seemed a bit smaller to me than the previous version, but now it makes sense.

Best of luck!

Paul... The all-road is a great car - but I'd keep the LR3. :) Has your Audi been pretty reliable?

David, I've never driven the current/outgoing RRS, but have considered picking up one. I do love the classic look and worried the new one is too soft as so many mentioned. But I do worry that if I picked up the outgoing RRS in two or three years I may have buyers remorse... it may feel and look outdated. But we'll see next week... and I cannot wait either, I'm very excited. I also wouldn't get the SC because IMO it's just too much and pretty damn expensive. In that price range I'd definitely get a outgoing RR or new one.

I do love my LR4 though. It has the room, the V8... and the ability to pretty much go anywhere. But I find myself getting older and thinking differently each year as my Son gets older. I used to have more time to do things that I liked... you know, the selfish guy stuff. I also used to be heavily into photography and nowadays I hardly pick up the camera. I don't know if it's time needed to raise a family or if I'm just growing and changing myself. It wasn't easy for me to let go of of my passion for M3s either... they were a hobby and driving meant the world to me. As I find myself getting lazier and lazier... the thought of having a vehicle that's more luxury than anything appeals to me greatly.

So finding the sweet spot is key and I'll be considering the above. And the Merc. I will admit though, the AMG wagon also tickles my nuts. And the sedan. Last year I almost got the E63... just happened to be at Mercedes dropping my wife's car off at service and the sale's rep who is got to be the coolest guy around, temped me quite a bit. He was offering me an insane deal on a black/black E63. I was just one step away from signing the paperwork. But one of the reasons why I didn't grab the deal was because I cannot drive to work in such a beast. My Dad always said, do not drive a nicer car than your boss. At that time I was at Sony and my boss drove a E63 convertible. Not a good idea. I know it sounds stupid and shallow to think this way, but unfortunately, this is how the world works.

But now I'm back at HP. And I work in online and mobile engineering. Also work downtown so I can take the bus a few days a week... and all the engineers drive some crazy cars. And no one there really cares what you drive. There are some engineers who drive 911s... some with Lotus, RRs... And never has anyone ever judged you or made assumptions on what you drive. I guess what I'm saying is that if I was at HP during the time the AMG deal came my way, I likely would have taken it. It was a crazy, crazy deal!!! Would my wife beat me? Yes... but only for a few days. Oddly, before I got into M3s, I was in the market for a 911, but my wife said they felt unsafe... but when we test drove the e46 M3 (pre-kids), which IMO was way more dangerous, trouble-maker chick picker-upper, my wife looks over to me and says, "I feel really safe in this car, I like it." In my head I was like... "God, if she only knew! YAY!!!..." Drove back to the dealership and made the deal. After that M3 hit age I bought a new e90 M3 a year before my Son was born, then when my Son turned 1, I traded her in for the LR4.
