why store a loose pen or tire gauge in a tray when the clip designed for a pen/pencil or a thin air pressure gauge is not in use? if you do not like ezpass mounted on windshield you can request an exterior mount that goes round front plate. if you do not use a front plate you can mount the reader behind the grill and it will work too. so your loose ezpass situation is resolved as well. i do not see how this tray assists in any way except being able to pull out all these items in one shot versus looking inside.

@nymoto , thanks for the post! Lead to some discussion on some other items I bought.
I like your solution. My upper glove box is also a bit of a mess and pens and things fall out when I'm digging for something.

I also never realized there was pen holder there! :)

Really? Wow. I do have mine on my windshield, but it's the older EZPass which is twice the size. I'd love to put it behind the front grill. Out of sight, out of mind. Get's pretty hot there in the summer, though with the engine running and the radiator, radiating. No issues?

I have the same goal and the same question (about heat and exposure). Although I sometimes grab my transponder to use in a different car so a semipermanent mount wouldn’t work for me. I have the small wedge-shaped unit like nymoto.

do you have more than four vehicles that require an ezpass at all times? if not then you can request additional readers. i own more than my fair share of vehicles and never had an issue with requesting additional ones and currently have three.

as far as heat exposure goes if your bumpers and grill havent melted i dont think your ezpass reader will either but i never tried on an lr4. on vehicles i owned which had heated windshield or had coating on the front that deterred RF i mounted on the exterior without issue even when front plate was not installed. i mounted in the same areas as stealth jammers would be installed or were installed. you could even use the standard small reader or a motorcycle ezpass and mount on the outside but it is much more difficult and if they are damaged or lost (unless stolen) you're responsible.

it can be replaced by mail and i am surprised they have not contacted you already to avoid a dying battery. the last of the large ezpass readers in this area were issued in 2007 or thereabouts. i do not know when your state started issuing the smaller ones but i have to imagine you're long over due.

I have my EZ PASS inside my windshield at the top center. I have a heated windshield. It's way up top, mostly concealed by the blackout LR has around the rear view. Just mentioning to note that I haven't noticed any RF shielding.

I am definitely at the end of the life on this pass. I didn't even know they had batteries. Assumed it was a passive reflector. I'll see how we go about replacing them (have two). Thanks for the tips.

I love the title of this post- it describes a little life frustration that I have too though I don't have as much loose stuff.
